We covered 3 myths today:
- The use of PPIs for upper GI bleeds
- The value of stress testing in low risk chest pain patients (covered in handout #1 and handout #2)
- The use of topical anesthetics for patients with corneal abrasions
The lessons I have learned while struggling with EBM addiction:
- Be ready and be happy to be proven wrong
- Be ready and be happy to say “I don’t know”
- To be a great doctor, it is not enough to know what to do, you need to know why you do it
- EBM isn’t easy (but it is worth it, and luckily there are many resources to help)
- Our choices really matter
